All The Pineapple Buns!

Arthur Kao

Pineapple Buns, also known as bo lo bao (菠蘿包)in Chinese, have a long and interesting history as these sweet Asian treats have been around for over a century. The buns are named for their signature topping, which consists of a sugary, crunchy crust that resembles a pineapple in texture and design. The crunchy topping is made from a combination of butter, sugar, and flour, and is typically sprinkled with various toppings to indicate the filling on the inside. Underneath the topping, the buns are fluffy and soft, usually filled with either a sweet custard or a savory red bean paste. Aside from the two aforementioned flavors, here at Sheng Kee Bakery, we pride ours with the different popular and familiar Asian flavors we offer them in such as Taro, Chocolate, Coconut, and Peanut! We even make Pineapple Dinner Rolls (Dinner Roll with the sweet crust)!

Pineapple Buns can be found in most bakeries in Hong Kong and Taiwan, and they have become a popular snack throughout Asia. They are often eaten as a snack or breakfast food, and are often accompanied by a cup of milk tea. So next time you're at one of our store locations, make sure to try one of these delicious treats!
