Pineapple Buns, also known as bo lo bao (菠蘿包)in Chinese, have a long and interesting history as these sweet Asian treats have been around for over a century. The buns are named for their signature topping, which consists of a sugary, crunchy crust that resembles a pineapple in texture and design. The crunchy topping is made from a combination of butter, sugar, and flour, and is typically sprinkled with various toppings to indicate the filling on the inside. Underneath the topping, the buns are fluffy and soft, usually filled with either a sweet custard or a savory red bean paste. 菠蘿包(中文稱為菠蘿包)擁有悠久且有趣的歷史,這款甜點在亞洲已流行超過一個世紀。它的名稱源自其招牌的外層酥皮——一層由糖、奶油與麵粉製成的香甜脆皮,外觀與質感都像菠蘿的表皮。酥皮上通常會撒上不同的裝飾,以標示內餡的口味。酥皮下的麵包鬆軟蓬鬆,內餡一般為香甜的卡士達或是鹹甜的紅豆沙。
